Total Fire Services Secures Major Lancashire BSF “Super Schools” Contract

In September 2008 Total Fire Services Conducted fire risk assessments on phase 1 of the Lancashire Building Schools for the Future “Super Schools”. The First Phase included Pendle Vale College, Burnley Campus and 6th Form and Shuttleworth College. The total floor area for the three phase 1 schools was 35,000 square metres. We also supplied and installed over 250 fire extinguishers across all three sites.

The £250m Lancashire Building Schools for the Future contract was awarded to Catalyst Lend Lease in March 2006. The Catalyst consortium is finance, design, build and manager of the super schools for the next 25 years. Within the consortium Bovis Lend Lease will build the schools and Catalyst will manage the schools with Vita Lend Lease providing facilities management and lifecycle services.

In November 2006 Catalyst Lend Lease were named as preferred bidder on the Lancashire Building Schools for the Future Project. The initial appointment was for a £250m rising to some £1.2b worth of work. Working closely with Catalyst Lend lease, Bovis Lend Lease and Vita Lend Lease Total Fire Services have been instrumental in ensuring that the schools meet their legal obligations under the Fire Safety Order 2005 and in particular producing fire emergency and evacuation plans.

Total Fire Services have been awarded the contract to provide fire risk assessments and fire safety support services to all schools as a sub contractor to Bovis Lend Lease. Catalyst Lend Lease and Vita Lend Lease (see below) in association with TFS Ltd are continuing to provide the head teachers and business managers with on going fire safety support, training and expertise.
